crocheted flowers

Here's some pictures of the flowers I may crochet. These are the first flowers I have found on ravelry.com and I will continue to look and see what I can find. I did find a picture of some crocheted flowers that had long stems and had been gathered together and wrapped with a satin looking ribbon, rather traditionally, and it looked pretty great. We will see what I can do. I got time so you know.

I'm partial to the lilies and roses, but I think it will be pretty neat for the bouquet. I am mainly concerned with my bouquet at this point, because it will be the most intensive.

jewelry idea #1

I am an avid crocheter. I love it so much, and I can do it really fast, so I was thinking of doing my flowers for the wedding party and reception crocheted and my jewelry.

I think this is the necklace. I am going to make a prototype of it at yarn-a-holics this week. Jeanetta will be there to help me decipher the instructions. It's super awesome.

also a picture in case you can't get to the link.

The only problem with it is that the yarn it's made with is not available anymore. I have another kind that might work, but it's off white. Which is not a problem if it's the right off white to go with my gown, but who knows. I guess I could always add beads too.

The pattern doesn't look difficult, and I imagine when I make a couple the third one will turn out perfect. We will see.

What do you think?

invitations

It's no secret I'm trying to do my wedding on the cheap, but I would like it to be as eco friendly as possible. I thought a good place to start would be with the paper products--invitations, save-the-date (STD), programs, reply cards, etc.

I was APPALLED when I started looking at the net for prices on invitations. I found fairly all right invitations, nothing truly spectacular, that were eco friendly, but cost $100 for 20. SAY WHAT?

Then I found http://www.123print.com/ and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could get 100 each of the invitations, STD (not that I would need that many), programs and response cards for less than $150! I ordered samples and when I get them I will definitely post information about them. But look at these, aren't they pretty?

And they come in an eco friendly version! Yay! Also, holy crap, this just got real!

artificial flowers

One of the projects I have decided to do for my wedding is making my bouquet, the bouquets for my attendants and other wearable and non-wearable flowers. I haven't bought a lot (just a few wine colored calla lilies) but I have been doing pricing expedition on things and found a few things. The following describes one of my obsessions.

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE LOVE LOVE snapdragons. While I was on a pricing expedition at Michael's in Little Rock, I discovered that artificial snapdragons exist! I couldn't believe it and I also couldn't believe I didn't buy the damn things when I saw them. I had a coupon even and that was like two weeks ago. Ever since I have been obsessing about it. I got another coupon and I will check it out again, but finding this website makes me think that maybe I can get them year round. This truly makes me happy.

Today I am also going to buy the pieces to experiment with making my own bouquets. Cheap flowers from dollar tree should do the trick. I'll post pictures as I make them.

Getting Married...FINALLY!

Yeah, I'm 35, getting married for the first time. I am thinking it's going to be in July 2012, possible on my mother's birthday (July 12). Finally, I will be able to remember her birthday! I never seemed to be able to remember exactly which of the three birthdays in a row were hers. When she was alive, I never heard the end of it. But I digress...

This blog is going to follow the planning of my wedding. The DIY projects, the budget, the dress, the dude, the everything. I hope that sometime, someone somewhere will find my musings helpful, and he or she will be able to use my ideas to plan their own wedding!

So a bit on me--I have been engaged for 2 years. We were trying to wait to get married until after the fiance, SolarCircleBoy, got a job and we moved, but it looks like we are putting things off yet another year. Part of me wants to just get married already, sheesh!, and part of me wants to have the party and the gown. Right now, the party and the gown part of me is in charge.

I will discuss the planning binder I have put together and some of the books I have used and some of my ideas and I will also brag about the amazing friends I have who are helping me put my wedding together on the cheap!
